Free energy … What a dream, eh? One of the biggest household burdens is the cost of energy. The cost of energy is frequently 40% of total household bills. So, free energy would assist every family that is not rich a great deal. However, free energy is a pipe dream, is it not? There is alternative energy, that is non fossil fuel based energy, like nuclear energy, but that is not low-cost either.
Other alternative sources of energy include wind-driven turbines and solar power. In this article, I want to talk about harnessing the power of the sun to make solar electricity. Creating solar power is nothing new and most people are acquainted with the general theory of how the system works. In deed, most of us have owned a solar powered pocket calculator or solar powered clock at some time or another.
Solar electricity is just as good and just as powerful as traditionally generated electricity and they can be utilized for exactly the same purposes. However, solar energy has one huge benefit, it is not ‘dirty’.
Electricity produced from the sun’s energy has not been made creating any greenhouse gases whatsoever. Additionally, because there are no moving parts in a solar panel, there is no wear and tear and so less maintenance.
Solar panel systems are more adaptable too. For instance, if you have a small house with couple of appliances, you still need the same method of delivering grid electricity as a huge house and you still have to have a metering system and a means of paying for the electricity consumed.
However, if you take the same small house as an example, you might find that ten solar panels will run it. Therefore, for a one-off expense, you are free of electricity pylons and their cables, the meter box and the monthly bills. A huge house would just have to fit more panels, say one hundred, to achieve the same freedom.
If you’re in the market for used auto sales, Austin’s DriveTime dealerships have a wide selection of vehicles to choose from. We know that it can be very difficult to get financed for a vehicle when you have poor credit, but at DriveTime we focus on getting people with bad credit into a used auto. Other dealerships may claim they can sell you a car no matter what your credit history is, but all too often this turns out to be an empty promise. That’s why you can count on DriveTime to find you a used car that you will be proud to drive!
This freedom from the instruments of delivering electricity is a very real benefit if you live in a far-flung place, where you are expected to pay for the electricity pylons and their cables all on your own. The down side of using solar power is the cost of setting it up. A professionally fitted solar energy system can cost about $30,000.
If you save $200 per month on electricity, then you will recoup your expenditure in about 300 months, which is 12.5 years. However, if you could get the system fitted more cheaply, you would recoup your costs more quickly.
This is possible, by building the solar panels yourself and installing them yourself. No matter what sort of a klutz you think you are, you can put together and fit the average solar panel kit. In fact, most teenagers can do the job. If you choose to buy solar panel kits to assemble yourself, you can save about half of the above costs, but if you were to make the panels from parts that are easily obtainable in DIY shops, you could be harnessing the power of the sun to make solar energy for up to 75% of the cost of a professional installation.

An Israeli company, Innowattech Ltd., in cooperation with Israel National Roads Company, has recently tested the IPEG™ (Innowattech Piezoelectric Generator) system in the first of its kind pilot project along a ten-meter stretch of highway in Israel.
The technology developed by Innowattech in association with Technion I.I.T (Israel Institute of Technology) is based on piezoelectric materials that enable conversion of mechanical energy exerted by the weight of passing vehicles into electrical energy.
One kilometer of Innowattech’s generators along a single lane is capable of producing an average of 200 KWh per hour, sufficient electricity to provide for the average consumption in 200-300 households provided approximately 600 heavy trucks or buses travel through the interval per hour on average.
The harvested electricity may be supplied to various road-side applications, such as traffic lights, billboards, enforcement cameras, signs, etc., as well as transferred into the electric grid. The technology may also be used for road data collection (Smart Road).
The technology does not increase the vehicles’ fuel intake or affect the road infrastructure. It is not affected by weather conditions and allows electricity to be harvested near the end consumer.
Innowattech has also developed the technology for harvesting energy from movement of trains, airplanes and pedestrians, to be tested within months to come.

I do not know whether you have ever thought of it, but you can get off the grid. The electricity grid that is. Is it anything that you are interested in? For some people, getting off the grid is the Holy Grail of modern life. We all believe that we are being milked dry by the energy firms and our soldiers are being killed on a daily basis to safeguard the West’s supply of oil.
If the same amount of money was invested in developing alternative technology, we would not have to import so much oil, but that would mean less profits for the energy bosses as well. So the average guy on the street loses out to the rich oil tycoons and people are squeezed for money and people die on both sides.
You cannot rely on these people to help you use less energy, it is not in their interest. The only thing you can do is take the bull by the horns and sort yourself out. Get yourself off the grid, save yourself money in the long term and help save the planet and our soldiers too.
It is often assumed that self-sufficiency in energy is only for nerds, but this is not true, it is now within the reach of every family or household. If you have lots of money, a solar or wind powered system will cost you about $45,000 and it will take about ten years to recoup your investment by getting off the grid. However, you can get the same system for much less than half that amount.
The fact is that technology has progressed rapidly in the field of solar power, as it has in every other technological sphere. Scorching sunshine is no longer necessary to produce a steady flow of electricity and prices have fallen. However, labour prices have risen and over-compensated for this fall. Herein lies our opportunity.
It is not hard to make your own solar panels and the components are readily obtainable in even small towns. The same holds true for systems that will create electricity from wind or water. The trick is to get a detailed diagram from which to build your solar panels or other equipment.
These plans are readily available online from specialist web sites and the components are available from DIY or hobbyist stores. Once you have crafted your sustainable energy resources, they are virtually maintenance free, although you may have to top up the batteries with sulphuric acid or distilled water.
Living off the grid is a magnificent feeling. Knowing that you are out of the clutches of the oil tycoons brings more freedom and the next time there is a power cut or a price hike, you can just give a smile and forget about it, because you will be living off the grid.

More people than ever are looking to save money on any of their expenses possible. Many are also interested in helping the environment as well. There are many ways to do both such as cutting down on your electrical consumption, reusing the things you buy and using green diy energy, just to name a few.
First of all, you can look over your home for ways that expenses can be reduced. Make sure all appliances and lights are the type that use energy efficiently. Check that your home is as well as insulated as possible. These are ways that you can spend less money on your utilities. There may be others so you may want to do an energy efficiency inventory to look for other places to improve.
In addition to cutting down on the energy purchased, you can also be kinder to the environment by investing in energy resources that are green and renewable. Some utility companies now use some power that comes from natural renewable resources such as water or wind. But, at least in some cases, you may get charged a little extra for this.
Alternatively, you can install natural methods yourself, such as solar panels, wind turbines or magnets. This gives you a constantly renewable way to generate power. These types of method can be professionally installed or you can do it yourself. If you want to do it yourself, you can either go to a home improvement store and get a ready to install kit or you can put it together yourself. The latter will be cheaper but will entail a bit more work on your part.
Installing these methods of generating energy may make you eligible for write offs on your taxes. If the installation is well done and the other improvements you make to your home are as well, you may well end up increasing the value of your home.
Your car is another area where you may be able to save money and be more environmentally friendly. Purchasing a hybrid vehicle is one way to do this. There are also some engines that are able to be powered by ethanol. You may actually already have a car that can do this, so check the manual to be sure. Ethanol is a renewable resource and also generally less expensive than regular gasoline.
Making improvements to your energy consumption as well as substituting renewable ways of generating it will take some investment of both time and money. Once you do make this investment, however, you should start seeing some decreased expenses.

I want to write about alternative energy sources for an argument paper for English. (Nuclear Fusion/Fission, Wind, Geothermal, Hydrodynamic, etc.) However, it’s difficult to single out a particular argument. We have to argue a specific change the audience should make. I would like to discuss home design and improvement as well. (like improving energy efficiency in the home). however i can’t settle on a single arguemnt in which I can write a 8-page argument. any tips/suggestions?
Okay, so I’m concerned about the role that humankind is taking in the ecological cycles of the Earth. Energy sources that are renewable is part of my vision for the world where humans are ecologically responsible.
Thus, the specific change I would recommend people make is to politically engage their communities and states to Repower America with 100% clean electric by 2020.
Another specific change could be insulating their homes.
The funny thing is that there isn’t one "specific change" that would fully address the climate crisis. What’s needed is a change in culture. Instead of thinking about how we can use nature to our benefit, I think we’d be better served to think about how we can live *with* nature. Can that be your specific change? "Consider the full ecological consequences of your actions"
