This is a video illuminating the focal point.
Duration : 0:7:50
If you’re in the market for used auto sales, Austin’s DriveTime dealerships have a wide selection of vehicles to choose from. We know that it can be very difficult to get financed for a vehicle when you have poor credit, but at DriveTime we focus on getting people with bad credit into a used auto. Other dealerships may claim they can sell you a car no matter what your credit history is, but all too often this turns out to be an empty promise. That’s why you can count on DriveTime to find you a used car that you will be proud to drive!

After about 6:44 …
After about 6:44 this video gets awesome! A million little fireflies doing a choreographed dance in the light. Science can be beautiful!
BTW Dan, when you lengthen out the focal point like that, does the concentrated energy drop off? (spread out?) Does this make a good argument for keeping a focal length short?

Great videos by the …
Great videos by the way.
Hey which is more efficient a frenel lens or a parabolic mirror? Also what is the useful life expectancy of both?
Thanks

Thank you for this …
Thank you for this video. It was simple like all great ideas. My suggetions – I noticed that the light is dispersing after the focal point. Please try to use this light after the focal point – for example by fixing second fresnel lens in the opposite direction. The hope is ti will increase the power of the focal point.

Hey Dan have you …
Hey Dan have you ever put a frensel lenz against a mirror and shorten the focal length? Its cool and useful as a magnified mirror as well. I didnt know that you could lengthen the focal point by wetting the grooved side though. thanks for the ideas in my head. you could use this technique as a timer as the lens dries.

can you use car wax …
can you use car wax instead of wetting that side? car wax will fill the grooves also and be more permanent. maybe u should try it? who knows?

I enjoyed your video pretty much!
It was a smart idea to do this at night with the use of carlights, instead of having your hands burnt during the day by the sun.

Great explanation. …
Great explanation. I didn’t realize there was a difference in the smooth/rough sides of a fresnel lens. I’ll be experimenting with that.
I’m thinking that with a gimbaled hour-hand clock mechanism for sun tracking, a copper coil boiler at the focal point, and a steam engine driven permanent magnet alternator…
Hmmmm…you get my point.

It’s a stock music sample/sound effect that comes with programs like iMovie, GarageBand, and Final Cut Pro. Basically if you have a Mac you have that “song”.

You would make a good science teacher, and I wouldn’t be bored at all. I’m a professional photographer and you’ve taught me more about Focal Length than I ever understood in photography class, honestly.

This brings back memories of Physics labs, where we found the focal length by using the reflection method. This way is far much cooler. Write a book Dan please do.
