Many things have been tried to reduce the emissions, but they can't be eliminated. Solar and wind energy don't require tons of secondary processes or chemicals to become electricity, and they don't generate waste. The upshot of that for forests is that we don't have to cut them down for fuel, or worry about poisons in the air or water damaging the trees.
