Your only stating a part of what republicans are now asking for. We want to drill now to temporarily reduce oil prices and boost our economy. While oil prices are being reduced that way we want to become less dependent of oil energy by using alternative fuels.

We want to develop many nuclear, geothermal, wind, and solar energy. If we just sufficently used just wind, solar, and geothermal, all of which are reusable and have no consequences on the environment in a few decades we would barely be using petroleum fuels. All drilling oil now would do is to decrease oil prices and decrease our dependence on foreign oil companies.

Eventually we can even use cars that run on hydrogen, and if we use all the alternative fuels we can we won't even need oil anymore for energy. It's not the republicans standing in the way of this. It's actually the democtrats. Stop listening to what the democrats are says about it and look at what they are actually DOING about it.

Nancy Polocy last week shut down the electricty to the senate when they were trying to make a bill to decrease energy costs, specifically what I was not speaking about. A democrat did that, and the only real reason that I can see if because a republican suggested the alternative fuel bill, rather than a democrat.

The only thing that Obama has suggested to decrease fuel cost is to drive less and fill up our tires, decrease the amount we eat, and that we can't buy the cars we want anymore, or have the AC at the temp we want it to be. thats all I've heard. At lease Mcain has a plan, and the guts to share it. Yes we do need to conservie, but we also need plans to use reusable fuels throught our country. Not just clammor for "change".
References :
Researching means investment and that means spending money and time. I don't think oil corporations want that. Besides they prefer oil speculation.
References :
they're against it because oil companies are paying them lots of money to be against it and why do you think they push for more drilling, more $$$ for oil companies, that doesn't make gas prices go down, competition between alternative fuels make energy prices go down

people voted for the repubs because they like lower taxes at the expense of the economy
References :
Such questions are so naive and short-sighted. Of course, we should look for alternative fuel sources... NO Republican denies that. But we will not discover a viable source any time soon AND once we do, it will be many more years before the infrastructure can support it for the common man. AND assuming part of what you are talking about is cars... Do you think the government will force everyone to simply turn over their cars for the new ones.... whatever they may be? Of course not, it will be a process of the "old" cars wearing out and eventually over time, being replaced by the new types.

All that and the need for oil will not be totally replaced anytime in the forseeable future, because we have needs for oil for many other things.

As to your statement about the amount we have here... that is patently false. If ALL the oil sources in America were tapped, we would have an amount comparable to Saudi Arabia... and that ain't a small amount, Bud.

You have simply fallen prey to the radical Left's environmental propaganda. You need to wise up.

How much funding is enough in your mind. Alternative fuel research has been funded. But I also ask you why does the government have to fund it? This is a capitalistic society. If something is a good idea, people will make it... because they want to make money. That is how the REAL world works.
References :
Well, common sense says we have to have something in the mean time.... no one is against alternatives, we would all gladly switch but to what? We need to drill until we get it.

How long will it be before alternatives are in use? Ethanol doesn't cut it since it pollutes more than gas...
References :
I think if you ask, you will find that most republicans are for doing EVERYTHING we can do. Not JUST look for alternatives, like most dems want. The reason you hear so much about drilling now, is that oil is what we need NOW. Of course we need to find alternatives, but that will only help in the long run. For now anyway, we need the oil.
References :
You are not so smart. It is the Republicans who have always been into the investment for alternative research. Its the large energy companies that have always put the investment in for the research and not some fringe company which is broke.
References :
It's not a coincidence that our president, vice president, secretary of state, and about 30 other top officials in the administration come out of the oil industry. The administration puts the concerns and well-being of the oil industry first. They won't fund research on alternative fuels until they figure out a way for Big Oil to make a big profit on it.

We should have been working on this problem decades ago. EVERY president has talked about our unhealthy addiction to oil but only one president ever actually did anything about it, and that was Jimmy Carter. When Ronald Reagan came in, he couldn't wait to undo all the good work Carter had done, even ripping out the solar panels on the roof of the White House. Reagan said he wanted the market to solve the problem, but when it comes to oil the market is not a free market because no real alternatives exist.
References :
We are not against it.

Research and come up with alternatives.

But in the meantime, increase supply by drilling our own oil. Reduce our dependence on foreign, usually nonfriendly countries.

It's like you have to eat oranges to live. You have an orange tree in your backyard, but you refuse to eat those oranges. Instead, you go to the market and pay $5 an orange.

You want to switch to being dependent on apples instead so you are working on the cure. You have two apple trees in your backyard.

Will you allow yourself to pick those apples when you descover how to switch? Or will you import them from France?
References :
They're not, it's just another bald face lie from the liberals. We support research into alternative fuels just not to the exclusion of securing more of the fuel sources currently available TODAY.

According to the experts in the field by drilling today we can have more domestic oil here in 1-6 years not the 10 years falsely claimed by know nothings. Does anyone know just how long it will be before we develop a reliable source of alternative fuels ???
