Using mono-crystalline solar technology, the Nomad 27M solar panel is by all accounts an outstanding source of free electricity. Traditional electricity generation is inherently wasteful. More than half the energy content of the fuel escapes from the power station’s cooling tower as waste heat. In addition, more than 5% of the electricity generated is lost in transmission in the journey from grid to end user.

An alternative approach is to generate electricity within homes and commercial buildings using a device called a fuel cell essentially a large battery with a replenishable fuel source. In Manchester, Mike Mason advocated fuel cells that use solid-oxide technology. These can run on natural gas, ethanol or various other fuels, including the gases produced when making biochar. Mason described domestic fuel cells that can produce electricity from gas more efficiently than even the best modern power stations and at a lower cost. Ceramic Fuel Cells opens Germany plant – Melbourne-based alternative energy company Ceramic Fuel Cells Ltd (CFC) has opened its large-scale fuel cell manufacturing plant in Germany. CFC is developing solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) technology to provide energy efficient and low-emission electricity from natural gas and renewable fuels.

The company is currently making fuel cell “modules”, which appliance companies can integrate into various product. Ceramic fires up Bluegen – October 5, 2009 – THE ASX-listed alternative energy company Ceramic Fuel Cells is set to start making its ”Bluegen” home solid oxide fuel cell units, which could see them being installed in Australian homes from early next year. Manufactured in Germany, the units will be priced from $8000 to $10,000 each and produce up to 17,000 kwh of electricity a year – more than twice the amount needed to power an average home. Ceramic’s managing director, Brendan Dow, said the grid-connected units, which are about the size of a dishwasher, generate electricity from natural gas on-site at a higher efficiency and lower cost than coal-fired power.

Mr Dow said the units operated silently, did not use hydrogen and were safe to install in homes. By February he hoped they would be certified as a safe gas appliance. Rising gasoline and diesel prices are creating a financial headache for all of us. If you use a car to get to work, the cost of your daily commute has soared. And if you’re in business, the cost of fuel is damaging your bottom line. There’s a need for greater fuel efficiency, and the media is full of tips on how you should do this. Drive more carefully, for example, and consider buying a different vehicle. But changing your driving style isn’t easy, particularly if you travel to work in heavy traffic. And switching to another car means you have to find the money to pay for it.

There is another way to increase fuel efficiency that’s simple and inexpensive. You install an HHO generator in your vehicle. An HHO generator uses proven technology to boost fuel efficiency by as much as 50%. Once we put this in terms of dollars, you can see how beneficial this can be to your company or your personal pocket book.

Imagine that your HHO generator saves you not 50% but a more conservative figure of 30%. And suppose you have a vehicle with a 20-gallon tank that does an average of 25 miles to the gallon.

Normally, you’d expect to get 20 x 25 = 500 miles from each full tank of fuel. With an HHO generator, you increase this by 30%. That’s 30% of 500 miles = 150 miles. In other words, with an HHO generator, you can run your vehicle for 650 miles per tank of fuel instead of 500. That’s a significant increase in fuel efficiency.

How it works: An HHO generator fits into most vehicles, no matter how compact the engine space. Through a process of electrolysis, it breaks down distilled water into its components of hydrogen and oxygen. The generator injects these gases into your engine via the air intake. The hydrogen improves the combustion process speed helping it to burn more fuel, and the oxygen raises your fuel’s octane levels.

The result is that your engine makes far better use of your combusted fuel. You therefore increase fuel efficiency. This technology is available now, not 20 years from now. This also reduces emissions dramatically because more fuel is burned in the combustion chamber. This also increases the horsepower with less “pedal pressure”.
