The energy crisis has been a concern for many years, but with each day more and more people are realizing its affects on everything. The gas prices, their electric bill, as well as anything even indirectly related. These things impact transportation, the price of food, the price of electronics, and really just about everything else. Something has to be done soon before we consume ourselves as a global society. USwitch Energy has decided to help you help yourself.

As long as we all decide to take action individually and start now, we will not have to hope and wonder if the world’s superpowers are going to be able to clean up this mess eventually. The best course of action is for each and every one of us to do our part in exercising clean energy conscious practices on a day-to-day basis. Many people are clueless as to what exactly they can do to help, or they believe that drastic measures and uncomfortable changes would need to be made.

Certain technologies that used to be out of our reach or inefficient can now be utilized on a smaller, more individualized scale. Harnessing the power of the sun is one way we can all make use of a clean, free energy source, and USwitch Energy has all the information on how to do it yourself. Solar panels were extremely expensive, large and bulky, and very inefficient in the past, but with advances in science and engineering, flexible photovoltaic cells can now be implemented by homeowners and are twice as efficient.

A recent innovation of photovoltaic technology now allows homeowners to place flexible and wafer-thin solar panels in more appealing locations while still getting optimal energy conversion to power certain parts of their homes. Solar panels do not require professional installation anymore, and do-it-yourself kits are now available to anyone. USwitch Energy reported the same about utilizing wind energy, because the new and improved wind turbines are available in sizes applicable to homeowners.

Ironically, as time goes on the demand for technology will lead to an increased need for energy, yet the evolution of technology will also lead to cleaner forms of energy. However, it is our duty as an individual to take action on our own without shrugging off the issue to the authorities, and USwitch Energy can provide you with the information to help.

While the price of non-renewable fuels will continue to rise all over the world, research money for alternative energy like solar energy is rising as well. In many countries, this movement has now born fruit in the form of unique projects that equally test your mind and provide functional purposes. At the same time, in the United States, innovative companies like Google have begun to invest considerable levels of funding straight into solar endeavours intended to force the envelope even further.

After years and years of struggling to gain traction, it appears as if solar energy may finally become popular today. In Europe, numerous trendy, but popular applications of the energy source produced headlines during the past year.

Solar Power Innovations Overseas

Perhaps the biggest problem in generating an acceptance regarding solar power as a workable power source continues to be presenting functioning good examples to the ordinary individual. Resourceful sustainable energy business people around the world achieved this with four unique undertakings.

The Netherlands’ SolaRoad

This past year researchers in the Netherlands introduced their intentions to build the world’s very first solar-powered road for cyclists. The master plan is to pave roughly 250 kilometers of bike paths with silicon cells and then cover the pathways with a covering of glass shielding. Although bicyclists spend the day riding over the path, the cells underneath their wheels are going to be producing the electricity that illuminates nearby traffic lights and street lights after dark.

Finland’s Solar Kitchen

Green energy enthusiasts and eco-friendly types of all stripes are certain to adore Finland’s tasty donation to winning over the hearts and minds of the ordinary man. A Helsinki restaurant owner opened an entirely solar-powered kitchen this past year that offers fine dining whenever the sun is shining. The entire undertaking was met with quick praise for both fantastic dishes and ecologically-sound strategy.

Serbia’s Solar Charging Stations

So as to both prove the energy source’s possibilities, and win over a generation mesmerized with its hand-held gadgets, a Serbian entrepreneur unveiled a series of photovoltaic-operated “trees” in Belgrade that serve as free, community cellular phone battery chargers. The trees charge virtually any mobile device in mere 10 or 15 minutes, and are also used as trendy assembly places and educational tools relating to the benefits of solar energy.

Solar Billboards in London, New York and Sydney

Worldwide tech company Ricoh put solar-powered billboards throughout choice places on three different continents in 2011 as a technique to build awareness for its resolve for alternative energy advancement. In addition to the sun’s rays, the billboards also utilize wind energy to illuminate their ads for renewable energy awareness.

Solar Energy in the U.S.

In spite of many years of minimal public recognition and, occasionally, outright resistance to the technology, solar technology has finally started to catch on in many quarters of the United States. Having such notable figures as Warren Buffet committing virtually billions of dollars on pv research along with other renewable power endeavors, it would seem as if the world’s mightiest economic power is poised to join the arena. The question is not if the U.S. will accept solar power, but instead, “which awesome advancement will the Americans create next?”

As nations around the globe continue to search for alternative methods for creating energy, wind energy has benefited significantly.Wind energy has prospered not only because it is a renewable resource, but also because it is becoming increasingly less expensive to create wind power.

The biggest development in wind power this year is that it is expanding: 18.4 gigawatts of new wind energy has been created worldwide in the first half of 2011 alone, and it’s anticipated that the new wind energy total will be well over 40 gigawatts by year’s end.

China has proved to be the most significant leader in new wind power development increases, being answerable for 43% of all new wind energy development in 2011 so far. And statisticians forecast that China’s wind energy consumption will likely increase.

Another big development is the high concentration of wind power in only a few markets. While nuclear power is making its way to developing nations in sub-Saharan Africa, 74% of the world’s total wind capacity belongs to just five countries: China, the U. S., Germany, Spain, and India.

China alone has a total capacity of 52 gigawatts of total wind power. The Green Energy Act in Canada has opened up USA’s northern neighbor to wind power; so much so that the Ontario province in Canada has already built 603 megawatts of wind energy in the initial half of 2011.

The price of wind energy has decreased, bringing it closer to parity status with natural gas. Because of that, wind power construction projects are anticipated to far surpass that of 2010. In total, the US has a wind power capacity of slightly over 40 megawatts; although that is less than China or India, it is a great improvement.

The lessening in the price of wind power, joined with the expansion of wind turbine production around the planet has made wind energy development extraordinary news in 2011.

It is possible for the person possessing moderate do it yourself skills to install the necessary equipment for solar energy panels and help take some of the power load off outside sources. A full home changeover to complete solar power might be well out of the price range of many homeowners especially when including the price of installation into the figures. However, the beauty of do it yourself packages is that the handy homeowner is not limited to just options offered by the installer.

Intermediate repair people may want to consider solar panel kits with all the parts, except perhaps miscellaneous items of wiring included. More advanced artisans may choose to design their own solar panel installation. There are many uses for solar energy among them are powering a home or just heating the water for showers. All require some advanced planning.

Advanced planning is necessary when considering a solar installation project. Part of the installation process will involve working with electrical components. This may well be within the skills of some craftsmen but if it is not then a qualified electrician might be called in to be sure the wiring is up to code and safe for use. This perhaps is the one aspect of the installation project where a homeowner might be wise to call in a professional at least after the wiring is ready to go.

An inverter is an essential part of the package in solar units intended to produce power for the home. If the homeowner has purchased a very small package the inverters will usually not handle new panels. More expensive models of inverters are capable of accepting additional panels. There are other considerations as well with the installation of solar panels and both have to do with the placement of the panels on the roof.

The first consideration comes with attaching the panels to the roof. These must be securely attached to either rafters or joists for stability. Anything that is intended to remain stationery on a roof must be securely attached and joists and rafters are the most logical choice. The panels should also be perfectly aligned, and a laser sight or a chalk marker will help maintain that straight alignment.

It is important to assure that panels are secured correctly and equally important to assure they are placed correctly to maximize their exposure to the sun. The more time a panel is in direct sunlight the more energy it can store for home use. Conversely a panel which is shaded for a portion of the day loses that much efficiency. Obstructions such as overhanging tree limbs should be removed if at possible. If a building nearby obscures the sun on the panels at any point in the day then the homeowner should attempt placement on the other side of the house.

Persons within many countries may find local and national government initiatives to assist with the cost of installing solar panels in a home. Some places may offer tax rebates while others offer long term loan programs. However, renewable energy is not just a good idea for the homeowner but often encouraged by the governments.

Solar panel self installation can help defray enough of the cost of going with a renewable energy source that families who may not have believed they could afford it find it is possible. The savings might just buy a few more square feet of panels or it could simply go toward the investment cost. While many people have successfully installed their own solar units it should be remembered there is no money back guarantee from the installer if mistakes are made during self installation.

With fossil fuels beginning to dwindle all over the world it is becoming ever more important for us to find renewable sources of energy. Some of the common renewable sources of energy that we are looking to take advantage of our wind power, water power, and solar energy as well.

Solar energy is essentially energy that is generated from sunlight. This energy can then be used to power up your home and all of the appliances within it. People around the world are adding systems of solar panels on to their roofs in order to take advantage of this unlimited form of energy. But why exactly are they doing this?

Well, first and foremost, your expenses will be cut down significantly by taking advantage of this source of energy. When you have a solar powered home you can shift your energy usage from the main power source onto solar power for quite some time. Often this will be sufficient to power up your entire home depending upon the system that has been setup. As a result of this, your expenses and bills will be significantly reduced.

The investment is also extremely low in most cases when setting up a system like this and it will also need the required once. If you are looking to create a system yourself then this can easily be done by purchasing a DIY kit. These are generally relatively cheap and the savings that you make on your bills each month will easily cover the cost of the setup anyway.

If you are looking for some more expensive options then you can get ready-made system is that can be installed by a professional company. These will certainly cost a lot more than the DIY system is but the energy you are likely to make from a system as extensive as this will likely be a lot more. As result, your bills will be reduced even more and you will recoup your investment more quickly.

It is interesting to consider that you can even make money through the use of solar panels and the generation of solar energy as well. If you create a system that generates a surplus of energy and electricity that you do not require within your home you consider the sell this back to the main power company in your area. This will, in turn, enable you to actually make money through the energy you create.

In addition to all of this, you will certainly be acting to save the environment yourself. We are all being urged to do our part and therefore we should be taking steps in whatever way we can to help save the environment. Certainly, creating your own renewable source of energy is going to be a big help on your carbon footprint will be reduced significantly as a result.

Certainly, you will need to be living in an area of relatively high sunlight to actually set up a system like this will stop however, if you do fit the criteria then there will be significant advantages that you can enjoy.

solar energy Solar power helps people to save money on their energy costs, and has become more and more popular. Solar power helps people to save money on their energy costs, and has become more and more popular. Some governments are offering grants to help people go off-grid and switch to solar power instead.

There are many people in our society that are spreading the good news that alternative forms of energy can be used by ordinary people to save money on the power bill. This is true however, it is important to keep in mind that solar is by far the most successful form of alternative energy. Because of this we will try to help you understand how ordinary people are utilizing solar energy.

The very first thing that some people might be curious about is not only what solar power is but how it works. The idea is a simple enough one for anybody to understand. Solar technology uses specialized cells that are placed into much larger panel units. The cells work to gather the light of the sun and convert it into electric power. The size and number of cells will determine how much power is created.

Some people find that the fastest and most convenient way for them to upgrade to solar is to hire one of the firms that specializes in acquiring and installing such things. The reasons for this are obvious, you are dealing with a company that knows were to find equipment at the best prices and will install it for you for a price. Some people do not like the costly nature of this method however.

A lot of solar enthusiasts and starting to discover that you can actually buy your own panel kits and install them yourself. Keep in mind that more than just the actual panels are required here. Special inverters that convert the power from DC to AC currents are needed as well as other equipment to properly wire the system into your home’s current source of power.

For people that want to dabble in alternative energy and are not ready to buy a pre built panel kit, there are many auction sites on the web that sell the actual parts you need to build the panels. The actual cells can be bought separately and panels can be constructed from raw materials. There are also parts for sale that can be used for constructing inverters as well as wiring devices.

The greatest advantage that a person can receive by utilizing this form of alternative power couldn’t be obvious enough. You save a great deal of money on your electric bill and who wouldn’t want that? Some people are claiming that they have almost been able to cut their electric bill almost in half. The amount of money that you save depends on the amount of sun that is present.

Certain myths tend to be floating around when it comes to solar power and the technology that produces it. The most popular one makes the outrageous claim that this technology cannot power a very large home. This is obviously a myth because as long as the proper amount of cells are present, there is no limit to the amount of power that can be generated with this technology.

After taking a moment some of the good reasons for ordinary people to consider solar energy you might want to learn more. It is possible to save money on the power bill as well as be kind to the environment.

AVISO Energy is a renewable energy company based in California, but the man whose innovations form the backbone of the company has yet to visit the US. That is slated to change at the end of this year, when Ismael Aviso makes his first visit to the US. His visit is to coincide with the first ever demonstrations of AVISO Energy’s new alternative energy technologies.

“Our new technologies are unlike anything the world has ever seen,” says company spokesman Alec Sherman,”and are so revolutionary that people who haven’t witnessed them in action find them hard to believe. That is why Ismael has decided to come here to show the technology himself.

The timing of Mr. Aviso’s visit has not been clearly set at this time, but AVISO Energy spokespeople say that it will be in early December. Lining up scientific audiences and travel visas are a few of the factors still not completely worked out. The company says that updates will be posted on their website, www.AVISOenergy.com.

“Our purpose is to introduce Ismael and our technologies to the world,” says Sherman. “That won’t be achieved with a secret meeting in a closed laboratory with a hand-picked audience.” The company plans to have the product demonstrations well attended by the scientific community and the public, and intends to stream video on its website, www.AVISOenergy.com.

Attracting investment is a stated goal of the visit. AVISO Energy has been privately funded up to this point, but has acknowledged the need for increased financing to take their products from prototype to distribution. Individual investors and firms are both likely to be in attendance

“This visit will be the beginning of an energy revolution for America and the world,” says Sherman. “We truly believe that when people see our technology at work, they will realize that they are witnessing a shift in our understanding of what is possible.”

Anyone interested in AVISO Energy technologies should keep a close eye on AVISOEnergy.com for info about his visit. AVISO Energy has attracted a lot of attention with his work, and his visit to the US will only heighten the excitement.

If you are interested in making use of photovoltaic systems, that is solar panels that create electricity, then one of the things that you’re going to be interested in are the financial benefits. Of course one of the main reasons that it’s important to use renewable energy is for the environmental benefits but those can only be used if the economics are right.

Solar Energy: How To Make Money

The only way that photovoltaic systems are going to become a truly sustainable and long-lasting form of energy production is by being cheaper than fossil fuels from the savings made on energy bills. When that is the case, the transition should be swift.

In our current situation, however, if you were going to go by the savings that you make on energy bills alone, it would probably take around 25 years just to pay off the installation costs. That, clearly, is not a good return on an investment. Which is why the feed in tariff has not been introduced by the government.

Instead of having to rely on savings on energy bills alone, when you make use of the feed in tariff, you get extra payments on top of that. For every unit of electricity that your solar panels generate, you get a certain amount paid to you. And you get even more for the solar power that you don’t use as it gets exported to the National Grid for general usage.

What this has achieved, by making solar energy in to a better investment, is that there have been many more solar installations in the UK. So although it still costs the same to get an installation, instead of taking 25 years to pay off the installation costs, now it usually only takes around 10 years.

Why do Governments Incentivise Solar Energy?

For a government to incentivise a certain industry there has to be a reason behind it. And when it comes to solar energy, there is a very good reason: they are trying to avoid any further global warming problems.

With all of the talk about global warming, carbon dioxide has got a bad name. Although there’s a good reason for this, it is not actually a “bad” gas, it is actually essential to our survival. Without it plants would have nothing to convert in to oxygen so we wouldn’t be able to breathe. We also need the greenhouse effect so that the world does not become too cold.

The reason that releasing carbon dioxide in to the atmosphere is a problem then is that if there is too much of it then there is going to be too much warming. This can result in a number of very unfortunate consequences that we would like to avoid.

It is possible, for example, that the Earth warming up more than it should could lead to ecosystems ceasing to function. If that were to happen then we may not be able to grow food in the quantities that we are at the moment, meaning that not everyone would have enough to eat.

If it is really such an important issue though, then instead of just incentivising renewable energy, like photovoltaic systems, why not simply demand production of enough to cover all of our energy needs? Unfortunately that would lead to an economic collapse because the resources are just not available.

At the moment then the best thing that can be done is to put as much money in to the renewable energy sector as possible without harming the economy too much. With more money, the solar energy companies are going to be able to develop new, more advanced technologies. And eventually government help will not be needed at all. At least, that is what is hoped.

There is now a very real possibility of making money with renewable resources. That’s because you no longer have to rely on the savings made on energy bills alone, there are also government incentives available. They have done this because they are worried about the dangers of global warming. So solar energy can be much more financially viable now.

Savings

The savings that you can make using renewable resources will be considered before we get on to the government incentives. These will still apply of course, it’s just that you get more with the incentives available.

We’ll focus on solar energy for now, for the simple reason that it is the most popular form of renewable energy. You can get the solar panels installed on your roof, so it’s pretty simple and available to most people. Looking at the savings, you have to take in to account of the cost of the installation as well though.

As energy prices continue to rise, the pure savings that you can make by using solar energy to generate electricity are getting larger. Even so though, they’re not all that big, considering the cost of the installation.

All the savings have to be compared with the cost of the installation. If the installation costs more than the savings you’re going to make, then it really makes no financial sense to use renewable energy. With solar panels, it would take around 25 years to pay off the cost of the installation through savings alone, and that is about how long a solar panel lasts for.

It should be no surprise, then, that before the feed in tariff came in to effect, there were not many people who were getting solar installations. Afterwards though, there were many more people getting solar panels, and we will now see why that is.

Feed In Tariffs

The feed in tariff is a government scheme whereby all of the renewable energy that you create with renewable resources such as solar energy, you get paid for. Now it’s important to note that you still get to use this energy, so it is not an exchange. You are just being financially compensated for using renewable energy.

Again, the reason that these incentives are in place, is because the government is concerned about things like global warming. They intend to reduce the carbon emissions the country makes significantly by the year 2020, and this is one of the ways they intend to do so.

So now, taking the feed in tariff in to consideration as well, what is the financial situation? Well this is where you will actually be able to make money. Instead of taking 25 years to pay off the installation costs, it should only take around 10 years when you are using the feed in tariff.

With the time necessary to pay off the cost of the installation greatly reduced, that gives you time to actually make profits. And of course if you choose to sell your house before that time, then the solar panels are going to add a lot of value to it.

Renewable Heat Incentive

With the feed in tariff in place for renewable electricity production, the renewable heat incentive is set to soon come in to effect for renewable heat production. It’s going to work in the same way as well, paying you for each unit of renewable heat produces.

This is going to apply to a number of systems. For example heat pumps like the ground source heat pump. You can also get an air source heat pump. It will also apply to solar thermal systems, which use solar energy to heat water. So it’s soon going to be more financially viable to use a solar hot water system as well.

To learn extra details about solar power, author Freddie Clarke has written lots more on this issue at renewable resources. Learn additional information regarding how the system works, such as how much money it’s possible to make, and obtain a free quote for an installation.

Of all the forms of renewable energy, solar energy is probably the most popular. The way that this energy is generated of course, is through solar panels; information about how they work will now be detailed. If you’re more interested on the monetary savings that you can make with them, information will be provided on that as well.

Solar Electricity

There are two types of solar panels, ones that create electricity, and ones that heat water for your hot water system. The ones that we’ll be looking at first of all are the ones that generate electricity.

To properly understand how they work, you first have to know a little bit about what electricity is. Put simply, electricity is the flow of electrons in a system. So to produce electricity, what that really means is that you have to produce the flow of electrons.

In order to create solar energy, it’s necessary for light to cause the flow of electrons. This is no small task, and for most of us we couldn’t think of any way to make this happen. However, if you know about semiconductors then the problem is almost solved.

If you do know about semiconductors though then a solution can be imagined (and indeed, achieved). The important property of semiconductors which is important here is that when light hits them, electrons are caused to move. Now, just because they are moving does not mean that it is electricity, as that requires a flow, but it is a good starting point.

Now all that has to be done then, is to get the electrons to move together in a useful direction. This is achieved by having the solar cells be in two halves, one of which has a negative charge, and the other one has a positive charge. These will have a balance, but when light makes electrons move, this balance is upset.

Balances will always be restored when they can. In this case, the option for restoring the balance between the two sides is achieved when the electrons flow along a wire connected to the solar panels. This flow, as stated, is electricity. And the wire leads to your house, which is how you get electricity.

Solar Hot Water Systems

Solar energy can also be used for the heating of water, and this can also be done with solar panels; information on this will now be gone over.

Solar collectors have absorber plates in them and these absorb the heat from the sun, and that is how they get the heat from the sun. Crucially though, it doesn’t actually have to be a hot day in order for them to work, it just requires sunlight.

Using Solar Energy to Make Money

There’s good news and bad news when it comes to making money with solar energy. The bad news is that on their own, considering the installation costs, the savings that you make on energy bills are not very encouraging. However the good news is that with government incentives now in place, solar energy is a much more attractive proposition financially.

The incentive that the government is using to encourage the uptake of solar panels is the feed in tariff. Through this scheme, for every unit of solar energy that you produce, you receive a certain amount of money. This has made investing in solar power much more attractive.

Should you have a genuine interest in solar panels, information on the amount of savings that you can expect to make with them in particular, then its best to get in touch with some experts. Find out how much a solar installation would cost you, and how long it would take you to get your money back. These days it’s about 10 years with the feed in tariff usually, after which you’ll actually be making money.

To discover extra info on solar power, author Lucas Walsh has written a lot more about this issue at Solar panels information. Find out additional information about how the system functions, including the amount of money it’s possible to save, also you can get a free quotation for a solar installation.
